Christmas at Throwley Yard: Free Circus Fun for Sutton

We were delighted to be part of the Christmas celebrations at Throwley Yard in Sutton, an event organised by iBento Events and Enjoy Sutton. The event brought the community together for a festive afternoon and evening, with a Christmas market, a tree switch-on in Manor Park and plenty of entertainment for families. Our job was to bring the circus, with free circus skills workshops and giant bubbles for everyone who came along.

Free community events like this are some of our favourite bookings. Families who might never book a circus workshop for a party get to try juggling, plate spinning and diabolo for themselves, and children leave with a new skill and a big smile. It is a brilliant way for a town centre to say thank you to the people who use it.

What Happened on the Day

Our team set up a circus skills area where children and adults could drop in, pick up a prop and get started. Our tutors showed everyone the basics and then helped them build on what they could do. Some children mastered spinning a plate on a stick within minutes; others spent ages working on a juggling pattern and were thrilled when it finally clicked.

Alongside the workshop, our giant bubbles kept the crowd entertained. Even on a chilly winter day, bubbles look magical, especially as the light fades and the Christmas lights come on. They are a great way to draw people towards the activity area, and they give younger children who are not quite ready for juggling something to chase and enjoy.

Why Circus Works at Christmas Events

  • It is interactive. Visitors are not just watching; they are joining in, which keeps them at the event for longer.
  • It suits every age. Toddlers chase bubbles, children learn tricks and adults often have a go too.
  • It adds atmosphere. Costumed performers, bubbles and LED props make a space feel festive and busy.
  • It is flexible. We can work in a market square, a car park, a shopping centre or a school hall.

Christmas Entertainment We Offer

Christmas is one of our busiest seasons. As well as drop-in circus skills workshops and giant bubbles, we provide stiltwalkers in festive costumes, including our much-loved stiltwalking Christmas trees, along with LED glow performers who look fantastic at evening light switch-ons. For schools we offer end-of-term circus workshops and assembly shows, and for businesses we offer Christmas party entertainment and team building sessions.

Our performers are based across the UK, from London and Brighton to Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Kendal and Newcastle, so we can reach most Christmas events without large travel costs.

A Few Highlights

It was lovely to see whole families learning together. Parents who started out holding their children’s coats were soon trying the diabolo themselves, and a few grandparents proved to be naturals at plate spinning. As the evening drew in and the lights came on in Manor Park, the giant bubbles caught the glow of the Christmas lights and made for some really special photos. Moments like these are why we love community events so much.

Working With Event Organisers

We work with event companies, councils, Business Improvement Districts and community groups to plan entertainment that suits the space and the crowd. We can provide a single performer for a couple of hours or a full team for a weekend, and we are happy to fit around stage times, parades and switch-on moments. A big thank you to iBento Events and Enjoy Sutton for having us at Throwley Yard.

Christmas Event FAQs

Can circus workshops run outdoors in winter?

Yes. We bring props that work well in cold weather, and we can set up under a gazebo or move indoors if the weather turns. Juggling and plate spinning keep people warm too!

Do you provide stiltwalking Christmas trees?

We do. Our stiltwalking Christmas trees and festive characters are popular at markets, light switch-ons and shopping centre events, and they make for great photos.

How many people can join a drop-in workshop?

Drop-in sessions run continuously, so there is no fixed group size. We bring enough tutors and props to keep things moving, and we can add extra staff for busy events.

Can you work alongside other entertainment?

Absolutely. We regularly share events with choirs, bands, Father Christmas grottos and funfair rides, and we plan our sets around the main moments of the day, such as the lights going on.

Fire Performance at a Fireworks Display in Lincolnshire

Bonfire night is the night fire performers live for. This year we performed at a large public fireworks display in Lincolnshire, with more than 12,000 people in the crowd. The photo above captures one of those moments where everything comes together: the flames, the dark sky and a crowd holding its breath. You can almost feel the heat.

Fire performance works brilliantly at fireworks events because it fills the gap before the main display. While people arrive, find their spot and grab a hot drink, our performers keep the atmosphere building with fire juggling, fire staff, fire poi and, as a finale, a few huge fireballs that light up the whole field.

What Makes a Great Fire Show?

A good fire show is about much more than flames. It is about pace, music and reading the crowd. Our performers build the show slowly, starting with smaller tricks and working up to the big moments, so the audience is with them all the way. They also know how to work with event teams and safety officers, fitting the show around the timings of the fireworks and any announcements from the stage.

  • Fire juggling and fire staff for classic circus skill with a dramatic edge.
  • Fire poi and fire hoops that create beautiful circles of light.
  • Fire breathing and fireballs for a show-stopping finish.
  • LED glow performance as a flame-free option for indoor events or tighter spaces.

Safety First, Every Time

We are fully insured for fire performance and we take safety seriously. Before every show we check the performance area, agree a safe distance for the audience and keep fire safety equipment to hand. Our performers are experienced professionals who know exactly how far their flames reach and how the wind will affect them. We have never burned anyone, and we intend to keep it that way.

Fire Shows for More Than Bonfire Night

Fireworks displays are only one part of the story. Fire performance is a fantastic addition to many other events, including:

  • Weddings, as an evening surprise for guests.
  • Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
  • Eid and Diwali celebrations.
  • Birthday parties and milestone celebrations.
  • Festivals and outdoor concerts.
  • End of school celebrations and university balls.

Fire works perfectly alongside our other acts. Many clients book our meet and greet stiltwalkers to welcome guests early in the evening, then bring in LED glow performers as the light fades and finish with a fire show. It gives an event a real sense of building towards something.

Behind the Photo

The image at the top of this post was taken during the build-up to the main fireworks. Our performer had worked through a set of fire juggling and staff tricks, and the fireball finale was timed so the crowd were already gathered and facing the right way. The reaction was exactly what you hope for: a gasp, a cheer and then a sea of phones being held up to catch the next one.

We Cover the Whole Country

With core team members based in Glasgow, Brighton, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Birmingham, London and Bristol, we can reach events all over the UK without large travel costs. That is how we can perform at a Lincolnshire fireworks display one week and a wedding in Sussex the next.

Fire Show FAQs

How much space do you need?

It depends on the show, but as a guide we need a clear area of a few metres in every direction, away from trees, gazebos and overhanging decorations, with the audience kept back behind a sensible line.

Can you perform indoors?

Most indoor venues do not allow open flame, so for indoor events we switch to LED glow performance, which gives a similar wow factor without the fire.

What if it rains?

Light rain is usually fine. In very bad weather we will talk to you and the event team about the safest option on the night.
