Giant Bubbles at a Spring Event in Dorking

Easter and spring events are made for bubbles. The weather is (usually) a little kinder, families are out in force, and there is something about a giant, shimmering bubble floating across a green that makes everyone stop and look up. This spring we brought our bubbleology show to an Easter event in Dorking, Surrey, and it was a joy from start to finish.

Our bubble artists use specially made wands, ropes and nets to create bubbles of every size, from clouds of tiny bubbles that children can chase to enormous tubes that stretch several metres before they pop. Some of the biggest bubbles are taller than the adults watching them. With a bit of skill and a helpful breeze, we can even send bubbles over the heads of the crowd or wrap a child inside one.

What Is Bubbleology?

Bubbleology is our name for the art and science of giant bubbles. It is part performance, part science lesson and part interactive play. During a walkabout set our performers move around the event, creating bubbles wherever the children are. In a more structured session we explain a little of what is going on: why bubbles are round, why they show rainbow colours, and why some days are better for bubbles than others.

That mix of wonder and learning is why bubbleology works so well at schools as well as public events. Children who are not interested in juggling or balance often light up when the bubbles come out, and it is one of the most inclusive activities we offer. Bubbles are visual and sensory, and children of all ages and abilities can join in.

Why Bubbles Work So Well at Spring Events

  • They draw a crowd. Giant bubbles can be seen from right across a field, so they help pull people towards your stalls, stage or activity area.
  • They suit all ages. Toddlers chase them, older children try to make their own, and adults take photos.
  • They are gentle. There is no loud noise or fire, which makes bubbles ideal for younger audiences and for children with sensory sensitivities.
  • They look great on camera. Event organisers love the photos and videos for their social media.

Bubbles Across Surrey and Beyond

We perform regularly across Surrey, including Dorking, Guildford, Sutton and the surrounding towns, and we have bubble artists based in other parts of the country too. Our team members live in Bristol, Brighton, Leeds, Kendal, Sheffield, Newcastle, Manchester and London, so we can bring bubbleology to events nationwide without big travel costs.

Giant bubbles pair perfectly with our other acts. Many organisers book a bubble artist alongside a circus skills workshop, so children can watch the bubbles and then have a go at juggling, plate spinning and diabolo. Others add a bubble stiltwalker, who towers over the crowd while filling the air with bubbles. It is a lovely combination for Easter fairs, spring fetes and garden parties.

A Moment From the Day

One of our favourite moments in Dorking was watching a group of younger children who had been a little shy at the start. By the end of the afternoon they were running alongside the biggest bubbles, laughing and pointing, and one of them had a go at making her own with a small wand. That is exactly what we hope for at every event: everyone involved, nobody left on the sidelines, and plenty of happy faces for the photographers.

Planning Bubbles for Your Event

Bubbles are at their best outdoors, ideally with a little space and a light breeze. Very strong wind or heavy rain can make things tricky, so for outdoor bookings we always have a plan B and can move to a covered area or switch to smaller bubbles. We can also perform indoors in larger halls, where we use different techniques to keep things safe and slip free.

Giant Bubble FAQs

Are the bubble solutions safe?

Yes. We use child-friendly bubble mixes and keep the area tidy as we go. We do recommend sensible footwear on hard surfaces, as bubble mix can make the ground slippery.

How long can a bubble artist perform for?

Most bookings are made up of walkabout sets of around 45 minutes, with short breaks in between. We can fit around your event timings and stage schedule.

Can you put a child inside a bubble?

Indoors, yes. With our bubble ring set-up we can lift a giant bubble around a child (or a bride and groom) for a brilliant photo moment.

Christmas at Throwley Yard: Free Circus Fun for Sutton

We were delighted to be part of the Christmas celebrations at Throwley Yard in Sutton, an event organised by iBento Events and Enjoy Sutton. The event brought the community together for a festive afternoon and evening, with a Christmas market, a tree switch-on in Manor Park and plenty of entertainment for families. Our job was to bring the circus, with free circus skills workshops and giant bubbles for everyone who came along.

Free community events like this are some of our favourite bookings. Families who might never book a circus workshop for a party get to try juggling, plate spinning and diabolo for themselves, and children leave with a new skill and a big smile. It is a brilliant way for a town centre to say thank you to the people who use it.

What Happened on the Day

Our team set up a circus skills area where children and adults could drop in, pick up a prop and get started. Our tutors showed everyone the basics and then helped them build on what they could do. Some children mastered spinning a plate on a stick within minutes; others spent ages working on a juggling pattern and were thrilled when it finally clicked.

Alongside the workshop, our giant bubbles kept the crowd entertained. Even on a chilly winter day, bubbles look magical, especially as the light fades and the Christmas lights come on. They are a great way to draw people towards the activity area, and they give younger children who are not quite ready for juggling something to chase and enjoy.

Why Circus Works at Christmas Events

  • It is interactive. Visitors are not just watching; they are joining in, which keeps them at the event for longer.
  • It suits every age. Toddlers chase bubbles, children learn tricks and adults often have a go too.
  • It adds atmosphere. Costumed performers, bubbles and LED props make a space feel festive and busy.
  • It is flexible. We can work in a market square, a car park, a shopping centre or a school hall.

Christmas Entertainment We Offer

Christmas is one of our busiest seasons. As well as drop-in circus skills workshops and giant bubbles, we provide stiltwalkers in festive costumes, including our much-loved stiltwalking Christmas trees, along with LED glow performers who look fantastic at evening light switch-ons. For schools we offer end-of-term circus workshops and assembly shows, and for businesses we offer Christmas party entertainment and team building sessions.

Our performers are based across the UK, from London and Brighton to Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Kendal and Newcastle, so we can reach most Christmas events without large travel costs.

A Few Highlights

It was lovely to see whole families learning together. Parents who started out holding their children’s coats were soon trying the diabolo themselves, and a few grandparents proved to be naturals at plate spinning. As the evening drew in and the lights came on in Manor Park, the giant bubbles caught the glow of the Christmas lights and made for some really special photos. Moments like these are why we love community events so much.

Working With Event Organisers

We work with event companies, councils, Business Improvement Districts and community groups to plan entertainment that suits the space and the crowd. We can provide a single performer for a couple of hours or a full team for a weekend, and we are happy to fit around stage times, parades and switch-on moments. A big thank you to iBento Events and Enjoy Sutton for having us at Throwley Yard.

Christmas Event FAQs

Can circus workshops run outdoors in winter?

Yes. We bring props that work well in cold weather, and we can set up under a gazebo or move indoors if the weather turns. Juggling and plate spinning keep people warm too!

Do you provide stiltwalking Christmas trees?

We do. Our stiltwalking Christmas trees and festive characters are popular at markets, light switch-ons and shopping centre events, and they make for great photos.

How many people can join a drop-in workshop?

Drop-in sessions run continuously, so there is no fixed group size. We bring enough tutors and props to keep things moving, and we can add extra staff for busy events.

Can you work alongside other entertainment?

Absolutely. We regularly share events with choirs, bands, Father Christmas grottos and funfair rides, and we plan our sets around the main moments of the day, such as the lights going on.

Amazing Bubble Moment at Feasty Fest

A Giant Bubble Moment at Feasty Fest

Every so often a photo captures exactly why we do what we do. This one, taken at Feasty Fest, is one of those. A giant bubble rising above the crowd, children reaching up towards it and faces full of wonder. It is a simple moment, but it sums up the joy that bubbles bring to any event.

Feasty Fest is a family food festival with a friendly, relaxed feel, and it was a perfect setting for our bubble artists. Between the food stalls, music and activities, our performers worked their way around the site creating bubbles of every size, from clouds of tiny ones for toddlers to chase to huge, wobbling tubes that stretched across the field.

Why Food Festivals Love Bubbles

Food festivals attract families, and families need entertainment while they queue, eat and relax. Giant bubbles are ideal because they:

  • Keep children happy while parents grab food and drink.
  • Move around the site, so every area of the festival gets a bit of magic.
  • Draw people in, with bubbles visible from right across the field.
  • Need very little set-up, so they fit around stalls and seating areas.
  • Create great photos that festival organisers can use in their marketing.

The Art of Giant Bubbles

Making giant bubbles takes more skill than it looks. Our bubble artists use specially made mixes, wands and rope frames, and they constantly read the wind to decide where to stand and how big to go. On a still day we can create enormous bubbles that hang in the air; on a breezy day we use the wind to send long chains of bubbles drifting over the crowd.

We also adapt for the audience. With very young children we work low to the ground, making bubbles they can touch and pop. With older children we might show them how to make their own, and with adults we save the biggest, most dramatic bubbles for the moments when everyone is watching.

Bubbles on Stilts

For festivals that want something extra, our bubble stiltwalkers combine two of our most popular acts. Standing tall above the crowd in colourful costumes, they create bubbles from a height, which means the bubbles travel further and can be seen from all over the site. Bubble stiltwalkers are always one of the most photographed parts of any festival.

More Than Bubbles

As well as giant bubbles, we bring circus skills workshops, stiltwalkers, LED glow performers and fire shows to festivals across the UK. Many festivals book a mix of acts across the day, with bubbles and workshops in the afternoon and LED or fire performance in the evening. We have performed at events including Glastonbury Kidz Field, WOMAD and the Royal International Air Tattoo, as well as countless local festivals and fun days.

What Families Said

One of the best things about working at a food festival is how long people stay. Families who stopped to watch the bubbles for a minute often ended up spending half an hour with us, with children taking turns to try the smaller wands and parents snapping photos between bites of lunch. A few of the children came back again and again throughout the day, each time a little braver about reaching for the biggest bubbles.

Organisers noticed it too. Having roaming entertainment meant the quieter corners of the site felt as lively as the busy areas near the stage, and the bubbles helped guide people towards stalls they might otherwise have missed. For a festival built around food and community, that kind of gentle, moving entertainment fits perfectly.

Festival Planning Tips

If you are planning a family festival, think about where children will naturally gather: near food, near the stage and around seating areas. That is where roaming bubble artists and stiltwalkers have the most impact. It also helps to give performers a base where they can store kit and refill bubble mix, ideally close to the main family area.

Festival FAQs

How many performers do we need?

For a small festival one or two performers is usually enough. Larger events often book a team so there is always something happening.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We always have a plan B, from moving under cover to switching to indoor-friendly acts.

Thank you to the Feasty Fest team for having us. It was a brilliant day, the food smelled amazing all afternoon, and we came away with some of our favourite bubble photos of the whole year. We cannot wait to see what next year’s festival brings.

If you run a food festival, street food market or family event, giant bubbles are one of the easiest ways to add atmosphere without taking up much space.
