Halloween Doorstep Visits That Your Guests Will Talk About

Halloween is one of our favourite times of year. The costumes come out, the props get bigger and a little bit spookier, and we get to do what we love most: surprise people. Our Halloween doorstep visits are a short burst of circus magic delivered straight to your front door or party venue, and they work brilliantly for family gatherings, street parties and small community events.

A typical visit lasts around 20 to 30 minutes. One of our performers arrives in full Halloween costume and makeup, and the show is shaped around your guests. For younger children we keep things playful, with magic tricks, giant bubbles and LED glow juggling that lights up a dark garden. For older children and adults we can turn up the drama with fire performance and a few carefully planned moments of danger. Everything is performed safely, at a sensible distance from the audience, by experienced and fully insured performers.

What Can Be Included?

Every visit is a little different, but most are built from a mix of the following:

• Magic tricks up close, so the children can see (and not quite believe) what is happening right in front of them.
• LED glow performance with light-up poi, hoops and juggling props that look incredible once the sun goes down.
• Fire performance for outdoor visits where space allows, ideal as a finale.
• Gigantic bubbles, which are always a hit with toddlers and grandparents alike.
• Photo opportunities with a fully costumed Halloween character.

This Halloween we are taking doorstep bookings across Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, London and Kent. Because our performers live across these counties, we can keep travel costs down and fit several visits into an evening. Prices start at £75, and slots are limited, so the earlier you get in touch the better your chance of securing the time you want.

Planning Your Halloween Party

A few simple things help a doorstep visit go smoothly. Let us know roughly how many guests to expect and their ages, so we can pitch the show right. If you would like fire performance, we will need a clear outdoor space with a little room around the performer. For indoor parties we switch to LED and magic, which still create plenty of wow without any open flame. And if anyone in your group has additional needs, just mention it. Our team are SEND specialists and Makaton trained, and we are always happy to adapt.

Doorstep visits also make a great surprise. We have turned up at birthday parties that happened to fall on Halloween weekend, at community trick or treat trails, and at small business events looking for something a bit different on 31 October.

Halloween parties can be hard work for the host. Keeping a room full of excited children entertained while also handing out sweets, serving food and answering the door is a lot for anyone. A doorstep visit gives everyone a shared moment to focus on, and it gives you half an hour to breathe. Parents often tell us it is the part of the evening the children remember, long after the sweets have gone.

Halloween Visit FAQs

How long does a doorstep visit last?

Most visits last between 20 and 30 minutes. If you would like a longer slot, for example a full party set with a workshop, just ask and we will quote for it.

Is it too scary for young children?

Not at all, unless you want it to be. We pitch every visit to the audience. For little ones we keep it fun and silly, with bubbles, magic and glowing props, and we save the spookier characters for older groups.

Do we need anything for the fire show?

Just a clear outdoor space, away from trees, gazebos and decorations, with room for the audience to stand back. We bring everything else, including safety equipment, and we will check the space before we start.

Looking Back on a Busy Year

Every year feels busy in the circus world, but this one has been something else. Our team have performed and taught at events from Tilbury to Tyneside, from Brighton to Bolton, and from Windermere right down to Worthing. We have been part of school fetes, family fun days, festivals, charity events and corporate days, and we have loved every minute of it.

It is the variety that keeps the job exciting. One weekend we might be running circus skills workshops in a school playground; the next we are on stilts at a festival, filling a field with giant bubbles or lighting up a dark night with a fire show. Each event brings new people, new challenges and plenty of memorable moments.

Highlights From the Year

• Great Ormond Street. We were proud to visit Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and to perform at the RBC Race for the Kids in Hyde Park, which raised a huge sum for the hospital’s charity.
• School fetes and fun days. We lost count of the number of school events we attended, bringing circus skills, bubbles and stiltwalkers to playgrounds and playing fields across the country.
• Festivals. From big outdoor festivals to small local food and family events, our performers have been out in all weathers keeping crowds entertained.
• Specialist provisions. We have worked with more SEND schools, specialist provisions and respite services than ever before, which is something we are especially proud of.

Growing Our SEND Work

One of the most rewarding parts of the year has been the growth of our work with SEND schools and specialist settings. Our coordinator Shaun is an experienced teacher who uses Makaton and basic BSL, and he has experience of bringing speech and language therapy (SaLT) techniques into the way we communicate. The idea is simple: we communicate on the child’s own terms, rather than expecting them to adapt to us.

In practice, that means adapting every part of a session. We think about noise levels, lighting, group size and the pace of activities. We use signs, symbols and objects of reference, and we choose activities that are sensory and visual, such as gigantic bubbles, balancing with other people, balloon modelling and passing balls. The result is a circus session where every child can take part and achieve something.

Getting Ready for Spooky Season

As the year moves on, we are preparing for Halloween, one of our favourite times of year. Our LED glow props and fire show kit are coming out of storage, our costumes are getting a spooky makeover, and we are taking bookings for Halloween parties, doorstep visits and community events. LED glow performance is perfect for indoor Halloween parties, while fire shows make a fantastic finale for outdoor events and bonfire nights.

A Team That Covers the Country

The reason we can say yes to so many events is our team. We have tutors and performers based across the UK, including London, Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Kendal and Newcastle. That means we can travel to most events without big travel costs and give organisers a fair, local price wherever they are.

Our performers are multi-skilled, so one person can often cover several roles in a day. A single booking might include a stiltwalking meet and greet, an afternoon of circus skills workshops and an evening LED or fire show, all from the same performer.

Special Needs Workshops

With vast experience in the special needs and disability fields I would like to consider our team as specialists in this important and rewarding area.
We aim to encourage all to achieve while having lots of fun and concentrate on both group and individual activities. Shaun, opur coordinator has worked with special needs people and disabled people both as a teacher and circus tutor and the emphasis will always be on inclusion and achievement.
We have worked with visually impaired and blind groups impairment groups, autistic groups, groups with Down´s Syndrome, children with severe physical disability and groups for adults and children with various forms of brain injuries.

Many activities have been adapted to suit ability and needs of the individual and it is vital to us that all are included and enjoy the experience.
We use our normal range of activities, some of which are adapted and have found particular success with added performance extras such as gigantic bubbles (visual and sensory) balancing with other people (communication and sensory) balloon modelling (sensory) passing balls (communication) glow juggling (visual and sensory).

How a SEND Circus Session Works

Every group is different, so every session starts with a conversation. Before we visit we talk to staff about the learners we will be working with, their communication methods, sensory needs and any triggers we should be aware of. We then plan the session around the group, choosing activities, props and pacing that give everyone the best chance to take part and achieve.

On the day we keep the structure clear and predictable. We use Makaton signs, symbols and objects of reference to show what is coming next, and we can provide a Social and Sensory Story in advance so learners know what to expect before we arrive. Sessions usually begin with a short, calm demonstration, then move into hands-on activities in small groups or one to one, before finishing with a celebration of what everyone has achieved.

Activities We Adapt

• Gigantic bubbles for visual and sensory engagement, ideal for learners with PMLD.
• Balancing with other people to build communication, trust and vestibular movement.
• Balloon modelling for a tactile, sensory experience.
• Passing balls and scarves to develop communication, turn-taking and fine motor skills.
• Glow juggling in a darkened room for visual stimulation.
• Plate spinning and diabolo, adapted with larger or easier props, for a real sense of achievement.

We have an excellent understanding of speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy approaches, and we are happy to work alongside your specialist staff so that the session supports each learner’s targets as well as being great fun.

Communication on the Learner’s Terms

We believe it is our job to adapt to the learners, not the other way round. Our team use Makaton and basic BSL, and we have experience with low tech and high tech AAC devices. We also understand current approaches such as Positive Behaviour Support and trauma-informed practice, and we bring that understanding into every session.

Our experience includes groups for visually impaired and blind learners, autistic children and adults, people with Down’s Syndrome, children with severe physical disabilities and groups for people with brain injuries. What Schools Tell Us

Staff often tell us they are surprised by how engaged their learners are. Children who find group activities hard will happily watch the bubbles, then reach out to pop one, then take a turn passing a ball. Others who rarely speak will sign “more” or “again”. Those small steps are exactly what we hope to see, and they often lead to a much bigger sense of achievement by the end of the session.
